Mission Trip to Boone, NC
The mission trip was great. We worked hard and it made me realize how you can affect somebody’s life just by doing some yard work or talking to them. I learned a lot some of which I can’t explain, but it was truly a great blessing. When we arrived to the first house all of our jaws dropped, the yard was humongous, but we pulled through and we accomplished it. Tuesday was an easy day at Ram’s Rack because it was raining so no yard work (Wahoo a break). Wednesday was a very hard day a work we all had two yards each to do (one of which I just so happened to stumble across a yellow jacket nest). Although we were working hard we still had fun and we didn’t complain because we did it to show the love of God.
Thursday was the best yet worse day for me. We were going white water rafting, and we were all excited. We started driving early that morning and we met the Wahoo people at a restaurant in Tennessee. After eating breakfast we got on their bus and headed to the River. Mr. Billy, Daniel, Desiree, Melissa and I got a Fun Yak (which is a one man kayak) and we headed down the river with a guide. It was so fun. After a while a long while we stopped to have lunch(even though x marked the spot of the copperhead family that lived under the rocks). Melissa changed spots with Zach so that she was in the raft, then we headed off again. The water wasn’t really high so you kept getting stuck on the rocks. After lunch the rocks were everywhere. I got stuck so many times I decided to stay at the front of the Fun Yak so that I could get unstuck a lot easier. Because I got stuck so many times I was at the end of the line. At the end of the rocky road, Mr. Billy was waiting for me. He told me to get to the back of the raft, and so I did, and proceeded on. I moved on up and that’s when I saw what looked like a little waterfall. My last words were ‘Oh my goodness’. So I paddled on up and before I knew it I was under the Fun Yak. At this point I took the word fun out of Fun Yak. I tried to remember the procedure to get the Yak flipped back over (the spider-man walk) but it wasn’t working. I started to panic because I was traveling downstream and hitting rocks on the way there. Then Mr. Billy pulled the Yak over so I was no longer under the Yak. I grabbed the first stable thing I could which so happened to be a rock. Mr. Billy pulled his raft over to the side and ran upstream. He jumped in the water but the current was to strong so he couldn’t get to me. Then the big rafts came by and I just wanted to get off of that rock, and out of the water. But no one could get me off of the rock I had to get off by myself. By that time Mr. Billy is ready to jump back in to get me but the guides tell him no. That’s when it became even more scarier. A guide that went by told me to let go and ‘swim’. I didn’t want to, I was to scared that the water would pull me down again. I heard a voice and it said ‘it’s okay, I’ve got you’. I didn’t know who I was, but I knew I had to get up off of that rock. I slowly proceeded to the end of the rock and then I slipped. All the time I could hear that voice that said ‘its okay, I’ve got you’. When I got off of the rock it felt like someone was holding my hand. I don’t know how I made it over to the big raft where Ms. Dollie and Krissy was or how I got in, I just was there. I had my eyes shut, and I was already hyperventilating so everyone was trying to get me to calm down. After I calmed down a little Amanda one of the guides had me doing these crazy things with my fingers and toes and trying to get me to say things. I didn’t want to talk or open my eyes but I had to and I did after a while. I then had the task of having to get on her raft. The rafts were moving and the water was right there. I didn’t like the water very much right then so I was hesitant. I finally got on her raft and she said I could sit at the bottom or on the ledge. I took my seat on the bottom of the raft. As we headed down stream I realized how crazy she was. She was just talking about having Mexican parties in the raft and things like that and then she started questioning me about the mission trip and what we were doing in Boone (the funniest thing that happened thus far). I wished she could be quiet; slowly but surely I got the words out and I talked to her; only when I had to though. Towards the end I had to get on the ledge of the raft and I just glared at the water. We finally made it to the end and that’s when I wanted some shoes to put on, but only one was recovered so I decided to go barefoot. Even though I said some things I kept pretty quiet, I didn’t want to talk about the accident at all. The rest of the evening I stayed to myself saying a few words here or there not letting anyone know how bothered I really was. After we got back to the cabin I figured I would work on my devotion for Friday night. At first it didn’t really work and then I got angry at someone for the things that they had said. So I went outside and I sat beside the tree in the back yard and that’s when I knew what I was doing my devotion on ‘Help’.
Friday I was not that very talkative as well. I still woke up bright and cheery, but I didn’t say much of anything. We split up into our two groups again and headed to Ram’s Rack, and we each had two yards yet again. I had my bible and my book with me and for some reason I knew the devotion I was doing needed something more to add on to it but I couldn’t figure out what. We got back to the cabin and had some time to spare until we needed to practice our skits and things we were doing for Family Night. I had got what I was doing for the devotion at that time Help and Suffering. I used Psalm 77 and 30, I also used some music from a Kutless CD I had recently bought. We practiced the skits and activities we were doing, ate dinner and headed to Flintrock Campground. At exactly 8:00 when the first skit was to start it started to pour, we managed through the night with the rain some things we even performed in the rain. Everything worked out in God’s will, our audience even grew even though it was storming. That night the devotion worked out well even though everyone was tired.
God had everything planned from the beginning we just had things in the way, so he cleared our schedule. The BYBS was still on for Saturday morning but the family night and worship service were canceled. Saturday night we went to Hebron Colony Church. John was graduating and was going to give his testimony. When we got there we knew that we were going to hear John’s testimony, but we didn’t know what God was going to do. That night we all let something go, something that was deep inside, or just out on the surface. God changed us all that night for the better, and we never knew what was going to happen but He did and that is amazing. After devotion we spent time together for He had truly drawn us closer through the ups and the downs, and that is something only He can do and he did. Sunday we went to Meatcamp Baptist Church and did a worship service there, and just like always it turned out just the way God planned. Through the whole trip I learned that God has a plan for everyday of our life, it may be to see that we need to give everything to Him or to help others and show his love, and no matter what He is there. I thank God for the mission trip that we went on and that I got to share my testimony with you. (just to let you know I’m okay..
